BADTHOUGHTSWITHNADAALIC(PART1OF2)

Let It Out | Nada Alic image

This week I spoke to writer Nada Alic. She’s the author of Bad Thoughts and working on a forthcoming novel. We recorded in the height of a heatwave here in LA and it all felt like a fever dream. I came over in the morning, left in the late afternoon. We hung out for an hour or two then recorded for nearly three more. As you'll hear, she's incredibly intelligent and clearly creative, yet so humble and funny. She's one of those rare people who are as cool as they seem online, yet also warm, inviting, and genuinely kind.

Nada is an incredible writer, her first book of stories Bad Thoughts came out this summer and she’s currently working on a forthcoming novel. As you'll hear, she's incredibly intelligent and creative, yet so humble and funny. She's one of those rare people who are as cool as they seem online, yet also so warm, inviting, and genuinely kind. We spoke for several hours and recorded a couple of them and could’ve kept going—I split our conversation up into two episodes.

In part one, we cover everything from our first communions and lingering Catholic guilt to thresholds and an archetype, called a “Puella” to how she ended up in LA to how she started writing and routines that help her continue to. We got into cancel culture, her creative approach to marketing her book, disembodiment, and much more. And in part two, we take questions from some mutual friends,, her thoughts on comparisons to other artists, romantic relationships, friendship, novel research wormholes, and more.
