DON'TLETITGETYOUDOWN:SAVALANOLANRETURNS(PART2)

Let It Out | Savala Nolan

This week, Savala is back for part 2. Savala is one of the most impressive people I know. She is a writer, teacher, and social justice attorney. She is the Executive Director of the Center for Social Justice at UC Berkeley School of Law and served as a law clerk in the Obama Administration’s Office of White House Counsel, where she focused on constitutional law. Savala's writing about race, gender, bodies and culture has been featured in Time, NPR, Forbes, Bust, The Nation, Detroit Free Press, San Francisco Chronicle, and more.

Savala's new book of essays, Don’t Let It Get You Down, has made a tremendous impact on me, which we discuss at length.

In this second part, we continue our conversation about her writing process for a book of essays and also discuss the imperfection of memory, motivations for telling a story about someone else, rejection, and sitting in your own body.
